Lyrics

¡Huija... oh... oh...!

English: Stillness in the Night

On the soft bed silence stretches out,
the hours lay down their deep fatigue
and the night sleeps, rocked by the wind
that passes pouring out its fragrant load.
At times, mixed with the murmur of the herd
that goes by longing for the softness of sleep,
the voice of the road is heard very deep,
beating in the cattle drover’s cry.

Huija… laraaa!

Snapping of bit rings, a sound of cowbells,
rumour of hooves beating the ground
with a muffled sound silence swallows up.
Landscape of stars, a scent of pennyroyal,
and there, where the night closes the road,
the shadows mix up pampa and sky.

The cattle drover, fulfilling his desire for horizons,
rocks himself in the soft swaying of the march.
And deep in the night’s tame drowsiness,
his eyes fall asleep looking for distance.
Tearing the soft cotton of the shadows
the herd goes on slowly, upsetting the serenity.
At times the silence is pierced by the deep
road song the cattle drover lets out.

Huija… oh… oh…!
